Biographie

Woodkid, aka Yoann Lemoine, was born in France in 1983 and grew up in a unique and exciting environment full of World War II stories and travels to Eastern Europe, where his family roots lie. Lemoine started playing instruments and keyboards at a very young age.

The Woodkid Project was created in 2006, when Lemoine received a signed ukulele from the legendary folk singer Richie Havens, who was featured in a film Lemoine was directing. It was on this ukulele that Woodkid composed his first song, ‘The sharks and the crows’. Since then, Woodkid has been writing music and developing his voice in his home studio in Paris.

Woodkid's songs are marked by his distinct singular voice, which brings warmth and emotion to haunting lyrics dealing with subjects like childhood, nostalgia, absence, and sexuality.

Captivated by harmonic suites and brass formations, Woodkid is currently working on his first album; thus far, it echos a coalescence of the music of Philip Glass and that of a mystical peplum movie.

Woodkid is also a multi-awarded music video and film director who has worked with major international artists like Moby, Passion Pit, Yelle…
